at teaching too, straight out of grad school, as a substitute for him while he was on semester sabbatical- what gigantic shoes I had to fill! His practice was so joyously experimental and curious, and even a little kooky. Many of his projects were really funny,
even as a kind of dark humor, or as a kind of ecological humor. How refreshing that was, and how much we need that even more. He will be so missed. thanks for providing this forum where all of us who were touched by him can share our experiences with Steve,

Ah what a terrible loss. Some of the things that I will miss the
most about Steve was his bottomless curiosity and creative energy.
Not only did Steve endeavor to survey the big picture of
technological arts, but he did so in a broad, unselfish, and even
handed way. He constantly expanded the boundaries of the field in
his writing, teaching and tireless archiving of the field. His own
practice was likewise continuously open to change and playful
experimentation. Thinking back upon his projects of the last 25
years he seems to have done the work of three diverse artists... and
all while creating a lasting pedogogical program at SFSU.
What a very fine fellow indeed. I am dumbstruck and deeply saddened
by this sudden news.
Hey iDCers,

Join us in an experiment with emerging forms of publishing and peer
review that will help teachers and all learners to think about their use
of digital media. Licensed under a Creative Commons license, this
collection of essays will be disseminated as printed book, free pdf
file, eBook and website.

"Learning through Digital Media" is the result of four workshops that
took place in the fall of 2010 when a total of eighty New School
faculty, librarians, students, and staff came together to think about
learning with digital media. We would be delighted if you'd review one
of the texts now. Public peer review will end on January 25, 2011.

Cheers,
Trebor

PS:
"Learning through Digital Media? is part of the lead-up to Mobility
Shifts, an international Summit about the Future of Learning that will
take place at the New School in New York City, October 10-16, 2011. Save
