The event will be broadcast live from the Old Stone House in Park Slope,

Downtown avant-garde and beyond, Niblock’s influential style of drone-based
minimalism, usually in combination with his original moving images, has
influenced a generation of composers and multi-media artists. For tonight’s
program, Niblock will present recent and not recent pieces of music, including <em><span style="font-family:Helv">Bag</span></em> (2014), <em><span style="font-family:Helv">Sethwork</span></em> (2003) and <em><span style="font-family:Helv">ExplWatson</span></em>
(2019), played live on bagpipes and guitar by musician </span><strong><span style="font-size:15.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:13.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:Helv">David Watson</span></strong><span style="font-size:14.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:13.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:Helv"> along with a recorded part. The

Now it its extended seventh season, <em><span style="font-family:Helv">Musical
Ecologies</span></em> is a monthly symposium on music and sound held at
the Old Stone House in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Curated and hosted by composer <a href="https://danjoseph.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=9ee054432952bdd1e532d388d&id=cc839e55e4&e=cffba70709"><span style="color:windowtext">Dan Joseph</span></a>, each event typically focuses on
a single artist who presents a work or project either in the form of a talk or
lecture, a multimedia presentation, a performance, or combination thereof. Each
presentation is preceded by an extended conversation between the artist and
curator.</span></div>

<strong><span style="font-family:Helv"><a href="https://danjoseph.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=9ee054432952bdd1e532d388d&id=0d5d8ea7d0&e=cffba70709"><span style="color:windowtext;font-weight:normal">Phill Niblock</span></a></span></strong>
(b. 1933, USA) is an artist whose fifty-year career spans minimalist and
experimental music, film and photography. Since 1985, he has served as director
of Experimental Intermedia, a foundation for avant-garde music based in New
York with a branch in Ghent, and curator of the foundation’s record label XI.
Known for his thick, loud drones of music, Niblock’s signature sound is filled
with microtones of instrumental timbres that generate many other tones in the
performance space. In 2013, his diverse artistic career was the subject of a
retrospective realized in partnership between Circuit (Contemporary Art Centre
Lausanne) and Musée de l’Elysée. The following year Niblock was honoured with
the prestigious Foundation for Contemporary Arts John Cage Award.</span></div>
