Hello everyone,

My name is Luis Nunez and I’m ashamed to admit that this is my first
experience with listserv. I’m also a senior at Lang, a History major,
and a part-time public servant at the New York City Department of
Education. I will be participating in November’s conference thanks to
the recommendation of my senior advisor, Orit Halpern, for whom I wrote
a paper last year that mashed up a custom historiography of the Internet
with the structural development of a biological neural network.
For my senior work I plan to explore the post-war development of
cybernetics and political science and see if it adds anything to an
understanding of the contemporary Internet’s democratic culture. (read:
would Twitter’s military forefathers approve of its role in political
action today?)

That being said, I’m not entirely confident in what I can bring to this
conference. I just took the LSATs (which was *fascinating*) and so the
past two weeks have been devoted to catching up with my real life. I’m
trying to get through all the posts as quickly as possible and the
conversation is very exciting.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the growing efficiency of exploitation as
well as the growing ambivalence toward ownership. It seemed like a
negative dynamic at first but now I’m not so sure. In fact, I think
these signs of the times are proof that the Internet is moving us in the
right direction (in terms of labor, politics, and culture). Hopefully
in the coming days I can back that up.

I look forward to learning a lot from you all.

-Lu
