Here's a link to an article about digital cinema, from an industry magazine:

At issue, of course, is distribution and how to secure it (and bandwidth).
The movie industry is heavily invested in having a digital distribution
network as one of the greatest post-production costs of an industry movie
is, quite simply, printing. Digital networked distribution poses some
logistical problems, obviously, but also poses (for Hollywood) an elegant
solution: basically the master print stays home, the photographic paradigm
(negative; no "original"; many copies) is disrupted in favor of something
else ("master" and "slaves"?).
