This whole thread is starting is becoming surrealistic!

When I cross the Atlantic on Saturday I will have not one but two 
suitcases full of books... Too bad Google is so f*cking capitalist, I 
would love to have all those things on a memory stick.

I am a voracious reader, I burn through data banks all the time, I have 
immense files full of pdfs culled out of thousands of online journals, I 
have no problem whatsoever leaving the familiar book behind, except I 
don't have to. Here in Chicago the house is overflowing with books, back 
in Paris I have covered all the open walls with shelves, though I don't 
take the computer to bed I only get about 2 pages read there before I 
fall asleep anyway so it isn't an issue.

At this point, the disappearance of the printed book is not looking likely.

In a future, utopian world where we will have found a free and 
non-polluting energy source, imagine all the careful and imaginative 
time that visual artists will devote to creating unique mnemonic 
interfaces that can help each person weave their singular path through 
the library of Babel!
