Thanks Charles for the link to that great piece on the Sokal affair by Mara Beller. Adam Curtis is also good on some of the nutcases from the sciences whose extrapolations have had enormous influence on understandings of culture, society, the human etc (of course, the humanities have produced plenty of their own....). More generally, what Sam Weber called the ambivalence of demarcation is everywhere to be seen in the disciplinary blindness to/dependence on grand metaphysical gestures/assumptions/mistakes in the takeover of territory from humanities types.
