Greetings,

I’m so delighted to be attending the Digital Labor conference this year- looks like an exciting line-up!

About me: I am an assistant professor in the School of Library and Information Studies in the College of Communication and Information Sciences at the University of Alabama. My research explores intersections of gender, race, and sexuality in information and communication technologies (ICTs). My current projects investigate the ethics of anthropomorphized interface design, particularly mapping narratives of race, gender, and labor in the construction of virtual workers. My presentation for #DL14, "Friction-free labor? Labor, gender, and the virtual work force” will treat this topic in the context of holographic airport customer service agents designed and distributed by Airus Media. I would love to hear from anyone else doing works that intersects with virtual agents.

I’m looking forward to meeting everyone in November!

Cheers,
Miriam Sweeney
