November 2016 Dominik Steiner: die meisten...bei Nacht und Nebel, 2016, Öl, Wachskreide, Tinte, Firnis auf Leinwand, 55 x 71 cm Fotocredit: Claudia Klein Dominik Steiners künstlerische Methode besteht aus der Verschmelzung stilistischer Steigerungen, die studiert, erforscht, einverleibt und schließlich transzendiert werden. In diesem Prozess der Einverleibung verbleiben und durchdringen Spuren und Arbeitsgänge das Bewusstsein des Künstlers im Gleichnis eines Palimpsests (Schichtung), da nichts jemals wirklich verworfen, sondern letztlich und verschieden verwandelt wird. Der Künstler re-etabliert ferner die Rolle der Zeichnung, erweitert Verfahren der Collage und macht metaphorische Verweise auf Figuration. Im selben Moment wird dem Betrachter das Material bewusst gemacht, das zusammengefasst so behandelt wurde, als ob sich dieses in einem Zustand roher Darstellung befände. Er teilt sich in einer eher problematischen und relativ expressiven Weise durch die vielfältigen experimentellen Qualitäten einer kreativen Polyphonie mit. Steiner partizipiert an einer Reise kontinuierlicher Anhäufung von Spuren, die er als Künstler fähig ist, zu einer einzigartigen und sehr persönlichen, eigenen Sprache zu formen. September 2016 Linde Burkhardt: Sofia, 2013, Aluminiumguss patiniert, Stahl, Keramik bemalt, Vase, Höhe 63 cm Fotocredit: Mauro Meschino, Gaeta Die Berliner Künstlerin Linde Burkhardt entwickelt in den Räumlichkeiten der Kienzle Art Foundation eine höchst interessante Parallele zum Vorgehen der Archäologen, der Theatermacher, Comic-Zeichner und Psychodramatiker. Rein formal betrachtet, kehrt sie das Verfahren der zeitgenössischen Literatur-Comics um, in dem Romanvorlagen, das heißt komplexe Erzählungen, in Bildvisionen umgesetzt werden. Zu einem Teil reagieren die Literatur-Comics auf die allgemeine Erfahrung, die mit der Verfilmung von Romanen gemacht wird. Immer häufiger wird geäußert, dass die Verfilmung einer Erzählung deren Wirkung beschneide, weil durch das real life-Agieren die Phantasie des Lesers eingeschränkt werde. (Phantasie entspricht der Fähigkeit zur Hypothesenbildung, siehe oben.) Der Literatur-Comic vermeidet diese Einschränkung, indem er zwischen den einzelnen Bildern genügend Raum für schweifende Phantasien des Leserbetrachters bewusst offen lässt. Linde Burkhardt will die Räume zwischen den einzelnen Bildfeldern auf antik-griechischen Vasen mit ihren Mädchendarstellungen zu neuen Assoziationsfeldern erweitern. Sie lässt Figuren aus den zweidimensionalen Darstellungen aussteigen. Der Ausstieg aus dem Bilde wird aber nicht in eine Erzählung übersetzt, sondern eben in einen Wechsel der Modalität. Aus zweidimensionalem wird dreidimensionales Geschehen, für das es aber keine definierte erzählerische Vorlage gibt. Vielmehr muss der Ausstieg aus dem Bild, die Erweiterung des Bildes zu einem realen environment, in einer Vielzahl von Zuordnungen der aus dem Bilde gestiegenen Figuren erfolgen. Diese treten in immer erneute, experimentell entwickelte Beziehungen zueinander; die dabei entstehenden Gruppen können vom Betrachter auch als psychologische Beziehungsgefüge interpretiert und durch die Interpretation zu immer weiter gehenden Konstellationen gefügt werden. Eco-tax regions of Europe

102 years after the shots that started, thanks to a betrayal in Vienna, a prolonged World War, geopolitically, the start of an ongoing war for control of petroleum, and of Africa, witness the bomb blast at an airport named after the Ottoman victor of Gallipoli, 100 years ago, we seize an opportunity in the return of Britain to its standard separation from the Continent, for setting up TELEVISION GOVERNMENT or GOVERNMENTFROM SPACE in line with the space technology and AI tecnologies of our time sustaining itself byECOLOGICAL-DEPLETION TAXATION, orECO-TAX in watersheds of Europe a formal list being prepared today, with these historical and hydrological recognitions. Towards a re-structuring of Europe, beyond the nation states to a much-more permanent form: of basins, an action already achieved in 1670-1870with Prince Rupert Land in North America. This was correspondence with long-timeOcean Earth colleague Wolfgang Staehle,and current Ocean Earth stakeholder,now in LA, Catherine Griffiths. We seize the opportunity of BREXIT formaking the Europa flag flown at Documenta,to replace the normal 12-star EU Flag,truly replace the 12-star EU flag. Art not only can make policy, but should. With the current vacuum in policy, we move fast. We assemble the already-produced images,including the proposed Britain flag recentlyshown at the national museum in ... I have spent decades campaigning for a watershed approach to geography. Ultimately, these would be within saltwater basins, not just freshwater ones. REBOOTING THE THING - some thoughts

Hey all, long time to see. the following discussion started 2 weeks ago at Wolfgang's place in Berlin and we decided to put it into a bigger circle of like-minded, interested thing members.... I wantto quickly reflect on a few points. There was a repeatedly stated desire not only from W but from many others, to bring back The Thing as an active platform for many different reasons and certainly for a number of different activities - A moderated (filtered) event announcement board, art criticism, and a discussion forum for all who stay away from Social Media for the obvious reasons. But also for activities that would not replicate what all others in the world are doing so avidly. Could it even possible become a mini Social Network for a like-minded community (and reviving the existing THING community) ? A few points: *secure yet subversive* And along these lines we discussed pgp aspects, the beta version of new open source mail program mail pile and other alternatives to Google controlled communication platforms that could be implemented. Pit mentioned how one could link THING as a site/platform to FB without a full submission however not to bypass the option of making use of existing social media sites as springboards. To paraphrase Walter, he mentioned that for him the importance of the Thing’s legacy was beside the “pioneer factor” it’s continuing uniqueness allowing political involvement and activity on the web that was impossible elsewhere, and he felt that this is an essential aspect which could / should be continued. *framework?* But what else? How could all this be bundled in an unusual way, not to look like a .gif animation happy hipster infotainment site but also not like a dusty blog. And speaking of the latter: The sad (Drupal?) interface of post.thing.net is for me a literal PostThing.net ...bit of a Dorn im Auge it make me already 5 years ago initiate (unsuccessfully) a similar discussion. *content? appearance? * So besides the basic idea on WHAT and HOW this all should materialize, it seems relevant to ask what issues should be prioritized at the same time how this then should look like? Regarding this Marc’s and Ruth’s Furtherfield was for me - not so long a go- still a highly interesting model to study, although nowadays I am more and more questioning the self-imposed limitations that come with the strict focus on networked culture. I nowadays are more excited about an "all-inclusive" framework ....needless to say one that is somehow balanced between deep, witty art criticism, activism..and otherwise wild things (i.e. a la MOUSSE, etc) *support structures?* Pit brought up the possibility to find support right within the dead center of the commercial art world, collectors and art patrons that could be won as sponsors. We discussed how labor of love works for a limited amount of time for certain people and how essential a long form support structure is. W … sorry to repeat issues that are as old as THE THING, question is what kind of individual donation support can still be found in todays German/European landscape within such a multitude of cultural activities, crowd funding culture, etc. Feel free to correct whatever I didn’t mentioned or sounds off. It would be nice to hear from all others some key ideas, what anybody imagines the THING to be like and also to what extend you could get involved. I guess apart from an already forming work group re the technical aspect, among all mentioned aspects a second work group could think about interface design - and all of us should throw concrete ideas for content. Research about Internet Art for King´s College London

I am a postgraduate student at King's College. My degree is a MA in Arts and Cultural Management. For my current MA I am conducting a research about Internet Art.The main focus is about the challenges that Internet Art has brought to the art world and how the art world is giving value (not only commercial, but artistic value) to this art form. Since one big part of net.art and online culture are mailing lists like The Thing, nettime and rhizome, I would like to start a threat about Internet art to know what curators, artists, collectors and visitors think about the topic. Some of the questions I am working around are: 1. How do you define Internet Art? 2. How do you judge an Internet Art piece? 3. What is that excites you the most about Internet art? 4. What do you think is the most important input that Internet art brings to the art world today? 5. How do you curate Internet Art? What do you look for in Internet Art? 6. Are galleries a thing of the past when we think about Internet Art? 8. Are online platforms for display a way of institutionalizing Internet Art and give this kind of art a legitimization in the art world? 9. How is the art world dealing with the fact that net artists are jumping the ropes of the art world by showing their art without any need of validation? How will this affect your role as a curator? 10. Who collects Internet Art? 11. How do you sell Internet art? Do you materialize the idea? 12. Do you find a difference between traditional artists and Internet art artists? 13. Are Internet art audiences different than museum and galleries audiences? If so, do you think is important to form new audiences for Internet art? How is the art world, or you in your role as a curator, developing these audiences? 14. Are we in the “post-object” era and what does this mean to your role as a curator? As part of my research project I am also making an Internet art piece of my own that will become part of my dissertation and that will be informed by the conversations I have with people about Internet art. Die Filme sind, von Georgiou zwar dirigiert, als filmische Ereignisse offene Versuchsanordnungen.  Hans (Österreich, 1989, 16mm, 84 Min.) zugleich Theaterfilm, inszenierte Laborsituation und, buchstäblich, „Psychokiste“ über Theorie und Praxis des Künstlerseins/Kunstmachens, operiert dieser Film in einer präzise kalkulierten Versuchsanordnung.  Obwohl an einem Set, innerhalb einer bühnenhaft-räumlichen Anordnung situiert, zerfällt das Geschehen in zwei Spielorte zwei lose korrespondierende Handlungsstränge.  Für die Betrachter bleibt die filmische Situation unentscheidbar. Die Inszeniertheit wird zwar offengelegt, gleichzeitig wirkt die „Live“-Dynamik dieses Films insgesamt authentisch. After Glenn Greenwald first received his stash of secret documents from Edward Snowden, one of the first people he consulted was security expert, cryptographer, and writer Bruce Schneier, who helped him review and digest the documents. A few weeks back we saw Bruce give a briefing on Capitol Hill in Washington DC, where he advised lawmakers to rein in the NSA, and the Internet community to pro-actively design countermeasures.
