Hello everybody,
Trebor, Sergio, Artur, Lucas, Lucia and others who enter, as you all know, we set up this list to think about the project for this map use here in Sao Paulo. Lots of things should be discussed here, once we´re doing all this though Sao Paulo- New York. We can talk here both in English and Portuguese.
So, we have some urgent things to talk about and decide. First thing is a name. A tittle for the project. A name that works both for the Brazilian and the American audience. We´re open for sugestions and this list serve for this, amongst other things. So think bout names and suggest here. I´ll give some I have thought.
Sampa Mundi SP_mapping SP_map_project Subjective_maPping
Another thing is a proposal. - Trebor, can we write it down first in Portuguese and then tranlate to English or should we do it in English already?
Best Ricardo

Dear all,
I'm excited about us all dedicating ourselves to this project: mapping Sao Paulo. We all have our own ideas and hopes for this project. Lucia Leao plans to visualize her research. Commum Lab will find a map like this useful to show others where their activities take place in real time. Artur was mainly interested in a map of Centro.
This project can accommodate many different ideas and usages.
Here is my suggestion for a plan:
1) Project goals
A) Review the interface design and interaction design of "Twenty Four Dollar Island" as it is. http://24dollarisland.net This is the project programming backend-- we would use a similar one for Sao Paulo. It is important to identify what works and what does not. Please have a look and send feedback. Which features would you like to add and why?
B) How would you use the map that you create? Remember, there can be as many maps as we like of each of the sections of Sao Paulo. You can have your own map. What would you do with it? What are your desires and needs?
C) Which communities should be involved in the development?
2) Project Scope
A) Review the current state of the Twenty Four Dollar Island project.
B) Identify the work to be done on the project
What parts of the project should be started first?
3) Personnel Resources
A) Identifying who will do what work
4) Setting Milestones
A) Schedule timelines for work to be done
B) Schedule regular planning and review meetings
C) Schedule future workshops introducing the mapping project
I would like to start this process as early as possible. We can use this list as discussion board and assemble documentation/ planning documents at:
http://distributedcreativity.typepad.com/mapamundi/
This way we stay organized and know where we are in the development.
What do you think?
Best, Trebor
PS: Names: "Subjective_maPping" great "mappa_SF" good
hi trebor, sorry for not sharing my ideas previously. I was thinking about pointing out the lack of spaces for sharing public experience in the city. every meeting in sao paulo must happen in private ambients. it may be in a bar, a restaurant, a shop(!), but never in a park, in the streets, in a corner, in a garden. no benchs for readings, no encounters by chance, no time to "waste" experiencing the city. compared to other big cities such as Buenos Aires, London, Paris, New York and many beach-cities like Rio de Janeiro, Barcelona, Salvador, Fortaleza and Recife, here it is a much bigger disaster. that should be a starting point to check how we are affected by notions of power and control in private spaces [as we are confined into them]. just wondering... [I hope this list could be useful for this too]. l.
